România Culturală
European digital hub for the Romanian-language cultural press of the diaspora
Context
The European Network “Cultural Romania” brings twelve Romanian-language newsrooms under one roof: eleven from the diaspora — Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Belgium — and AgențiadeCarte.ro in Bucharest, the network’s link back home. The project was started by the Opera Scrisă.RO Association, in partnership with the Union of Professional Journalists of Romania, and is funded by the Department for Romanians Everywhere. It starts from a simple observation: Romanian publications in Europe have never been more numerous, and never more fragile — they work in isolation, with no cybersecurity and no copyright protection. The site had to be the place where a reader in the diaspora finds everything written about Romanian culture, and where every newsroom gets European visibility, secure hosting and a legal framework for its articles.
What we did
- editorial hub with six journalistic dossiers, each with its own coordinators and numbered materials
- directory of partner publications, grouped by country, with a dedicated profile for every newsroom
- partner account for each publication, from which the newsroom manages its own profile and articles
- news feed and media library — interviews, podcasts, reportage — with filters by publication and content type
- network map, from Madrid to Berlin, with Bucharest as the central hub
- event agenda with a live countdown for the presentation tour in Spain
- site-wide search, RSS feed, newsletter and an anti-spam protected contact form
- high-contrast mode, accessibility statement and granular GDPR consent: analytics and external content load only after the reader agrees
The details that mattered
A cultural press project couldn’t look like an ordinary news portal, so we went for an editorial, magazine-like tone: numbered dossiers, documentary photography, typography that reads like a printed page. The most important part, though, is invisible: every article travels between newsrooms with its source and author clearly credited, and every publication manages its own space without depending on a central administrator. The site shows no ads and loads nothing from third parties without the reader’s consent — for a network built around copyright, respect for the reader is part of the message.
Who a project like this suits
We recommend this approach to networks, associations and cultural projects that bring several partners under one umbrella: publications, institutions, organizations across several countries, each with its own voice, but sharing a common home.
A custom project
România Culturală isn’t a brochure site, it is an editorial platform — with newsroom accounts, dossiers, a media library, filters and a publications directory that grows as the network expands. It doesn’t fit into any package and has no list price.
It can be done, though. The budget is calculated according to complexity and workload — how many partners join the platform, what they can manage on their own, which content types are published and what is left for later phases. We discuss what you need and come back with a concrete quote and timeline.
